About
Mark G. Russell is an Illustrator and Artist from Sydney, Australia.
In his Illustration work Mark has a strong focus on arrangement and he is particularly fond of the space where Illustration and Graphic Design meet. With the use of flat colour forms, playful collage, a good dose of humour and stacks of character he strives to find simple ways to communicate clearly while reminding us all how wonderful and wacky the world is.
Having worked with Penguin, Taronga Zoo, Flying Bark, Buck Design, Mighty Nice and more, Mark’s experience is diverse and has had him wear the hat of Children's book Illustrator, Concept Designer, Animator ,Finished Artist, Layout Artist and Graphic Designer.
Mark is also a practicing artist and has shown work and partaken in Artist in Residencies in Japan and Thailand. His artworks often take the form of Audio Visual installations with a particular focus on sound design- which has been an exciting area of experimentation for him over the past several years.
In 2023 he was asked to join a project in commemoration of Sasamori Inari Shinto Shrines 1200 year anniversary painting 64 motifs for the ceiling of the main shrine building. The project lasted a year in which time he spent living in Gunma, Japan.
